Bread and Circuses

While there are some speculating the many reasons why Barack Obama was elected for another 4 years, the Pro-life movement needs to keep on advocating for life.

Looking back into Ancient Rome, we have only to remember how Caesar pacified the masses--bread and circuses. We may not have the Circus Maximus, but we definitely have Bread and Circuses. Are we the next Rome?

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years."
- Alexis de Tocqueville
